Germantown, MD (May 2, 2011) - The need for 40G and 100G Ethernet solutions is rapidly growing across various industries. The seminar, entitled Efficiently Coding Communications Protocols in C++, will review how to use C++ classes to implement protocol layers, how to use a tasking/queuing model that cuts across protocol layers efficiently, and how to reduce overhead in creating message buffers. An implementation will be presented that uses C++ classes to implement a layered protocol. This implementation will also demonstrate how the tasking/queuing model can be separated from the layered implementation. Methods for efficiently parsing message headers and using caching for low overhead creation of message buffers will also be reviewed.
Harvey has over 25 years of experience in systems and software engineering, developing real-time embedded systems primarily for telecommunications and data network products. He has worked with communications technologies including packet switching, optical networking, satellite communications, telephony, and wireless. He has implemented communications protocols including TCP/IP, Frame Relay, ATM, SS7 and Packet Over SONET. Some of his accomplishments include, pioneering the use of Object Oriented design and C++ programming in developing a software framework for telecommunications test equipment, leading the development of the first production ADSL test set, and developing and implementing algorithms for the first DWDM system that automatically adjusted power levels and gain.
